my first original house mix: britney’s “do somethin”

bravehound - britney mixI’ve recently made a hobby of mixing continuous house CDs for the listening enjoyment of my friends and I. I’ve always thought it would be fun to take it a step further, and remix a song myself. Well, I finally gave it a shot.

I’ve remixed “Do Somethin” - a bouncy pop track from Britney’s Greatest Hits CD. While it’s surely not perfect, I was pretty pleased with what came of it. It’s given me enough excitement to really learn how create remixes really well.

I’d love to hear what people think. I’ve named the track “Do Somethin (DJ Bravehound’s Penetration Mix)”. No, I’m not a DJ. I’m just really pleased with myself. :)

It’s also available for listen on my web radio, which you can lauch from the left sidebar of my site. Note that the radio streams high quality mp3s, so if you are using dial-up… the best of luck.

the future of the media?

An old coworker of mine sent me a link to this Flash presentation, and I thought it was quite interesting. Starting with true dates and events from the ‘birth’ of the internet, it shows the possibility of a future where the world’s media is produced by us through a new information system, built eventually by today’s online giants. You’ll have to give the movie a watch.

The exciting (maybe scary) aspect of this Flash movie that it’s not too far-fetched. Given the growing popularity in the customized, globally-accessible, user-driven systems beginning to surround us (Google, Friendster, blogging, etc.), a future not unlike what this Flash movie suggests… could be on it’s way.

Cingular Launches 3G, Picks Up Pace

If you would have told me a year ago that Cingular would become the most notable, forward-thinking wireless carrier in the US, I wouldn’t have agreed.  But Cingular’s announcement they will be launching 3G services has changed my mind.

On top of that, they’ve been launching newer, high-end handsets much more quickly than they used to… a changed welcomed by demanding mobile customers like myself.  So much good change from Cingular since they purchased AT&T, and it’s just beginning.

The word is a trial of their new 3G data service will first be available to Cingular employees, limited to Atlanta, Georgia, Cingular’s home.  While I’m sure that the nationwide launch of their service in 2006 will include a release of at least a couple UMTS handsets, I’m wondering if they will sell any in the meantime, to take advantage of their recently updated six city UMTS network acquired from AT&T.
