Alison Krauss - If I Didn’t Know Any Better

I’ve heard the comment more than once, "Wow, we’re really into different types of music."  House tracks don’t even account for 10% of my library, though.

Long before I loved house music, or found myself shirtless at any boy-boy squishy-squishy circuit event, I had a love for bluegrass tunes. You know the saying.  You can take the boy out of Montana…

And my fav?  Alison Krauss.  Here’s a video off her most recent release  She’s been doing this for what seems like forever, just seems to get better and better.  And damn it, I still haven’t managed to catch her live.  Not that many of my friends would want to tag along to see a show that included fiddles.

sweet! We took home 2 GayBloggies awards

Gay Bloggies

Thanks to you guys, this blog scored a couple Gay Bloggies this year! Y’all voted me in as Best Canadian Blog and Sexiest Queer Candy.

Now, considering I’m an American now living in Canada, I’m not sure if I would qualify for the first one (and Mark is claiming responsibility for that award, not surprisingly). As for Sexiest Queer Candy… who knows what that award means, but I like all three words in the award title. So rock on.

Now if I remember correctly, most of the prizes were memberships to some web sites that were adult in nat- ….. yeah, the prizes were all porn. Who says we all like porn?

Oh yeah. I do.

I’d share the winning with all you guys, but I’m pretty sure that would put me in a different blog category.

fixed that dang tip jar

Tip Jar

Thanks for the heads up that my tip jar was busted. Typepad changed the URL on me. The random tips tossed in there have helped with my blog / mix hosting costs, not to mention the Beatport.com account that helps feel those mixes (legally).

Speaking of which, I tested part of the new mix at the gym today… still needs some work, as I’ve been come-and-go with the time I’ve been dedicating to it. But again, I’m not satisfied unless I’m doing something different with the mix than I have done before… but I’ll happen, slowly but surely.

Nokia BH-800: finally, some decent hardware

WE ARE BORG

“RESISTANCE IS FUTILE. WE ARE BORG.”

I’m using a new bluetooth headset that’s pretty sweet. Now I can comfortably take notes while my boss phones to tell me that the comps I designed and sent him are:

“too red. Do you like red? I don’t know. Red is just so… grrrrr.”

*types the oh-so-constructive feedback, with no cell phone squished between shoulder and ear*

“Red = Grrrrr. Got it.”

The first time I bought a bluetooth headset to use, it was one of those large Jabra bluetooth headsets … it went inside your ear, out in front, did a loop-de-loop over in back of your ear, to a large heavy backside - which was roughly the size of the phone you’re wirelessly trying to connect to in the first place.

Since then, I have tried using other bluetooth headsets, none of which I took to using regularly because they didn’t meet one or more of my 4 requirements:

1. Comfortable enough to wear for an hour long conference call
2. Quick and secure one-handed placement in the ear
3. Decent audio quality and easy-to-find controls (while it’s in your ear)
4. Tiny enough so it’s never a burden to have where you want it (pocket, change holder in the car)

I’ve really enjoyed using the BH-800. Overall, I must say I’m pleasantly surprised with this headset. It
also matches the specific mocha-and-white colors of my N73 phone, too. It’s like my phone gave birth to a baby version of itself. One for my ear.

While headsets over the last couple years have become pretty small, they haven’t always fit me very well. I have flimsy ears (I used to fidget with them when I was reading as a kid), so an equally flimsy ear clip doesn’t stay on so well. This headset has an adjustable - and removable - metal ear loop that makes this thing rock solid on your ear, and is surprisingly comfortable. This is by far a favorite feature, as most small headsets either clip onto your outer ear or have no clip at all. It’s pretty secure without the ear loop, but The whole headset only weighs a negligible 9 grams, which is awesome. It’s got a pretty sexy design to it… as sexy as a bluetooth headset could ever be considered, anyway.

If I had one complaint to make about this headset, I’d say the range could be better. It doesn’t by any means ruin the talking experience, but I did notice it was quick to cut out while I did my usual apartment-wide pacing during a brainstorming meeting. After about 12 feet I started noticing audio interference. While I didn’t experience any discomfort from it, the inner ear speaker might be a bit large for some ears. There isn’t interchangeable end pieces like some in-the-ear headphones now provide - that would have been a nice feature.

Overall, big thumbs up.

sweet, I’m a Verve Weblog Award Finalist

Verve Awards Finalist

Who knew people cared so much? :)

I got another nomination for a blog award… the Verve Weblog Awards. This time, I’m nominated in the following categories:

Best GLBT Brand New Blog
Best GLBT Blog Design
Best GLBT Technology Blog
Best GLBT Canadian Blog

The voting is done by email unfortunately, as they don’t have a ballot system for this contest… looks like they should have asked a GLBT Technology Blog finalist for a hand with that :) If you just wanna shoot them votes for me specifically, and win my favor for all eternity, click here to vote for my blog as one of your faves.

However, you really should check out other finalists - they include some really great bloggers. To see the nominations of all the categories, you can copy and paste from the ballot list and vote via email yourself. (link includes entire ballot list, links, and instructions to email your vote).

PS - It’s funny to think what the category of GLBT Technology might include, in contrast to just plain old Straight Technology.

Oh, those silly gays and their innovative technological advances.

Zelda for the Wii, and Wheee for Zelda

I’m excited to get a Wii. Every time I see footage of the new Zelda, I pii a little bit.

After my whole dissatisfaction with the xbox 360 lacking titles with truly enjoyable gameplay, good ol’ Nintendo comes to save the day with just about the best launch title imaginable. Sure, the PS3 powerhouse will have this game beaten graphics-wise with every one of its launch titles… but I guarantee you, none of them will offer a fun, memorable gameplay experience like a Zelda title.

It’s less cartoony than the previous cell-shaded title, but still cartoony enough to feel like a Zelda game. But unlike most fans, I love that they didn’t opt for audio voices for characters in this game.. they stay as text only.. still. No other Zelda games use voice, and I think that bad voice acting more often ruins games than enhance them. ‘Sides… it makes you feel more intimately involved in the story - too many xbox games (and some titles sleeping all systems) feel too much like just watching and listening to a movie. I bet my bro would disagree, but that’s my two cents.

If ya want more, GameTrailers.com has tons more videos The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

only old people say SNL isn’t funny anymore

*unfortunately, the site hosting this movie file is no longer :( *

This is one of my favorite recent Saturday Night Live skits. Even though Tina Fey has moved on to do 30 Rock (which I’m liking so far… who knew Alec Baldwin was so damn funny?), the newer stars of the SNL cast are still great… this skit includes all my favs. The newest of which on is the far right - SNL’s newest voice talent, Kristin Wigg.

In case you’re reading this before watching the clip above, I won’t spoil the funniest line that Amy Poehler blurts out. It’s extra funny to me, as I’ve woken up with money in my underwear before, and only vague recollection of how it got there…

shakira: i’ve got to get a wii

Shakira - I’ve got to get a wii

See? Shakira and I are on the same page.

sweet! I’ve been gaybloggies nominated

Gay Bloggies Nomination

I got an email today saying that I’ve been nomiated as a Gay Bloggies finalist. I got nomiated for Best Smile, Best Body, Sexiest Queer Candy (huh?) and Best Canadian Blog. After I stopped giggling at the name of the award, I considered the impression my blog gives to a web surfer with a 10-second attention span, one who’d click the link on the voting form to see the blogs they’re voting on. Hopefully they see me sharing more than just shirtless pics of myself. If only it’s just a little more. :)

So let me help. Over to the left of this page you’ll see the house mixes I’ve mixed and shared out. Up top you’ll see my photo journal, archiving in pictures, the travels of the last few years of my life. It’s kinda what started me blogging.

I’m becoming more interested in content creation on the web… more creative sharing than re-blogging interesting stuff that’s already out there. Aside from my house mixes, I’m starting doing some vlogging (there are some videos below), and spare time permitting, hope to do more of it. I’m a big nerd so all my techy interests show up on here, too.

So, check me out, leave a comment and say hey, and if you feel so inspired, gimme a vote!
