Rogers & Fido pricing for iPhone: Criminal

 iphone-canada

Bastards!  First the bad news.

Below are the newly announced Canadian iPhone pricing plans offered by Rogers and Fido.

Stupid overpriced.

Yeah, no unlimited data, so don’t get too excited about that 3G capability… the greedy GSM monopoly wants to make sure Canada stays naked and chained to the floor, like a good little bitch.

And for those of you that haven’t seen how expensive even calling minutes are here, look at the $60 plan.  150 daytime minutes!  Wow, unlimited voicemail!  We still get CHARGED for caller ID though.

There is a tiny bit of good news, despite all this. I’ve surveyed a few of my iPhone-toting buddies, and it looks like unmonitored users that browse and email as much as they would like, don’t seem to be using all that much data… at least not in GB/mo.  I’ve heard in the year that they’ve had the phone, they seem to average 100-400MB of traffic a month, surprisingly.  If you have a wireless network at work and home, I can see how it could be pretty easy to keep the rates darn low without even trying, using it just for the web browsing, email, and mapping on the go as much as you please.  But if you ride the bus and love youtube, these prices it might be an issue.

***Question to Current iPhone users in the US***… how much data are YOU using per month?  There’s a setting on your phone that shows the usage…toss it in the comments, let us in the Great White North know what we’re in for.

Video: Robyn, live in LA - watch the concert

robyn

Thanks to a sweet note passed by a loyal blog reader and commenter, here’s a fun treat you can’t miss.

MSN has posted almost all of the live concert Robyn performed last month in LA, during her North American tour.  I saw her in Montreal, and it was ridiculously good.  It was in a smaller venue than this was filmed, and the crowd was nuttier.. it was clear we were all Robyn-crazy.  But in case you wanted to see what you missed, here ya be!

New to Robyn?  Click on Cobrastyle, Handle Me, Be Mine, and With Every Heartbeat

Already a huge Robyn fan but wanna see something fresh you might have missed, not catching the show?  Don’t miss Medley, Dream On, Show Me Love.

(be sure to click the larger-view button on the bottom right of the video)

It’s hard to say what her best tracks are.  I fell hard once I saw the girl-in-a-box music video for Handle Me, and was singing Bum Like You for weeks after I heard it.  In a good way.  Madonna and Janet really can’t pay enough producers to make an album like this.  Best pop album of the year, said without any hesitation.

Yes, top of her performing her *amazing* new album filled with songs that could pretty much ALL be singles… she does an encore with a plinking ballad version of her 90’s pop hit "Show Me Love"… a quirky homage to an old song, showing where she’s come from and where’s she’s rocked to, since leaving her major label to start her own bigger, badder movement.

*Note: Looks like you’ll need IE or Firefox to view the video - sorry Safari users, you should have a back-up browser anyway :)

Check the scenario, she gon’bust yer ear drum.

Spore Creature Creature - my first critter

Not that imaginative, I know.  But I wanted to make a little raptor-like guy.  Meet Harvey. We have the same hair!

Considering the TRIAL of the character engine of this game is wicked fun, I think we have a winner on our hands here.

It auto-uploads movies you make you youtube, which is a fun little plus. Expect to see more of my creations once I play with it a little more :)

I’ll definitely be getting the full version of the Creature Creator when it’s able to be downloaded for Mac… not to mention the full game.

Download the free trial of the Spore Creature Creator here.

The Summer jam I can’t get out of my head

Beyonce’s little sister Solange has unrealistically big shoes to fill… but I’ll be damned if her single isn’t more fun than most all other tracks coming from the pop powerhouses.

When I hear this little ditty, I can’t help but think of sipping a cool adult beverage, lounging by the pool… it’s Summer in the city, folks!

Busy weekend here… we bought a loft!

Crazy, busy and a wee bit stressful weekend… but we bought ourselves our first home!

We hadn’t been looking really hard, but had been keeping an eye open.  But our buddy Andre discovered the listing for this sucker and shot it to me on messenger on Thursday.  I nabbed Mark and we pounced.  Thanks AndreAndre, Andre, Andre.

It’s a fun loft space in a 1950’s office building that’s been converted into condos.  It’s a good deal bigger than apartments we’ve had in the past, so we’re really looking forward to having an actual guest room, and lots of space to entertain.

We won’t move in for a couple months yet.. but have a fun thing to look forward to at the end of Summer!  Extra-special warm fuzzies to our buddies who helped us land this sucker at the speed of light.

Fido to launch 3G iPhone; I turn and bite pillow

letsdance
If you can’t tell by the image above, it’s happened.  I’ve come to terms with my sin.  I’m going to submit myself to the devil-phone, take it like a man, and enjoy it.

And that’s another long post to come, sometime before Satan touches the Great White North with super-gorgeous-candy-lust-phone.  With a basic 2mp camera.  *sigh*  But I digress.  This shall come later.

Despite Apple listing both Rogers and Fido as carriers that will launch the 3G iPhone in Canada, many though it might be an error.  Rogers owns Fido, and while it’s a great company, isn’t the megapower name Rogers is here.  We smelled Rogers might horde it.  And when only Rogers put their "Something big is coming July 11th" on their homepage and Fido didn’t… yours truly - along with other Canadian mobilephiles - cried a single emo tear.

But Fido has confirmed they’re launching the 3G iPhone.  Fido has been rated as the #1 carrier here, and I love them.  They rape me much less for my US calling and texting than Rogers would.

Plus, I like doggies.  Woof.

Making the image above, might have been enough fun in itself to switch, but I have plenty to share about the iPhone - what it might mean for the backwater data charges in Canada, my camera phoning fetish, and putting fun (and money) into mobile application development.

*giggle*   ….that little doggie has a ‘fro…

Blame (part of) it on the Blood Elves, I guess.

galvin

Yeah.  So WoW has been eating into my fun computer time.  It’s part of the reason my photos and my posts and pics have been few and far between.  But only part - I’m gonna get into other reasons in an upcoming post.

That out of the way, Bravehound on Proudmoore is a big ol’ 54 and I started Galvinn on the same server, and he’s rockin 28 levels.  And that’s his pet, Kitty Biggles.  The mountain lion, not the little green fella.

So yeah, this means that I’m having a ball with WoW.  Even though this game is a good 4 years old, it’s still friggin fun.  New MMOs just ain’t coming close.  Gave Conan a brief try, but sorry.  What’s fun is fun.  Some things aren’t easily duplicated I guess.

I’ll be blogging about the other 2/3 of what’s kept me away…

3G iPhone w/ GPS, App Store… $199, bitches

Apple to mobile industry:  Suck it.
