a new house mix - let it go

I’ve finally made another house mix I’d like to share. And it’s quite different than my last mix. It’s a more accurate picture of my taste in house music, and where it’s going.

I’m really proud of this mix. Let It Go mixes fresh tracks I’d bet many people haven’t heard (yes, that means no Britney, or any Top 40 remixes, really). Of course, there will be a couple familiar tracks… one of which is a classic house anthem I couldn’t resist tossing in there, as it’s one of my all-time favorites, and a definite floor-filler.

The first few tracks were my inspiration for the mix (including the first track, which is one of my new favorites). I found that the first 4 songs jived so well together, I challenged myself to wait until I found tracks that did them justice. Unfortunately, this took me a while. But the great part is that I ended up rifling through tons of house music I wouldn’t have normally come across.

I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think.

Andy man, the Mix just started and I know the first song! Either you shop in Abercrombie too much or we listen to the same music. Lol.

  • Steve April 29th, 2005 7:51 pm

Andy it just started and I’m already into this. Good Job Man! Long Live DJ Bravehound!

  • Chris April 30th, 2005 12:51 pm

I’m loving the mood this playlist has. It’s def New York Night Clubish! Are all the songs the same bit rate? The quality is supurb!

    Sort of Diesel-ish.

  • Andrew April 30th, 2005 4:24 pm

It’s output at 160kbps. Though I’m sure some of the tracks I used in it were 128k before that, so inbetween 128-160kbps.

  • Chris May 1st, 2005 6:57 pm

Do you use effects in your mixes? If you do, where did you get them?

  • Andrew May 1st, 2005 8:54 pm

Rarely. If I would, it would be a random effect downloaded from Filetopia or something.

  • Carl May 2nd, 2005 10:09 pm

Hey, good mix.. i wanted to ask u what kind of program u use to mix the songs..

    again, good job

    Carl.

  • Andrew May 3rd, 2005 6:39 am

Thanks.. I use MixMeister to do the mixing.

  • Tom May 10th, 2005 9:25 pm

    How come you’re always naked?

  • aguysite May 10th, 2005 11:00 pm

his music just does that, get you naked. sweatin.

    good stuff andrew. ;o)

  • Pablo May 11th, 2005 8:13 am

Hey Andrew, congrats on an incredible job with “Let It Go” It’s been spinning in my ipod all week. What is the first song called? I love it! DJ Bravehound Rocks!

  • Andrew May 11th, 2005 12:00 pm

Always naked? Well, this isn’t exactly a piano recital :) Seems fitting for the post.

    That, and I’m always naked.

The first song is Kaskade - “Everything” … Kaskade is amazing, does all sorts of good loungey stuff… he’s one of the men behind OM Records, after all. Cool stuff!

  • Andrew J May 12th, 2005 9:17 pm

    rockin’ mix, it’s a gymmer.

  • Chris May 14th, 2005 6:57 pm

I’ve got one more question andy, I promise.

When you’re making your mix, do you pay close attention to the bpm? Some times I can hear the song speeding up from like 124bpm to like 130bpm but then again, it might only be me because I remeber how the song ends and at what rate… if you know what I mean.

basically, i’m asking if you make the playlist with tracks that have close matching bpm?

  • Andrew May 15th, 2005 12:17 pm

Yeah, most of the tracks I’m using are natively 124-134 bpm… so before mixing them, they’ll be moved to 128-130 bmp so they mix well and there’s no audible speeding up. However, Better at Night gets faster with each song, so that it’s eventually at like 134bpm.

  • tom May 16th, 2005 5:45 pm

    hey andrew,
accidentally deleted the song list you sent me for the better at night house mix. Would it be possible to have you e mail it to me again? I would really appreciate it.
    Thanks man,
    Tom
P.S. If you could send the song list for the let it go mix. that would be cool too.
    Keep up the great work!!!

  • Chris May 16th, 2005 11:22 pm

That’s cool idea. If I understand what you’re saying, you speed up the tracks manually before you mix them?

If it’s cool, could you email me the name of the 3rd song?

  • Pascal May 19th, 2005 3:48 am

Just listened to the mix and like the “dark” track that goes “Dance, Get up and move your feet…”…sounds like a D Ramirez Mix, what’s the name of it ?
(By the way, I use Mixmeister as well)

  • Rahja May 19th, 2005 5:28 am

As a fellow mixer I can appreciate your efforts. It is one thing to distill a decent tracklist from the hundreds of available options, it is an entirely different thing to get these tracks to play well together. You have a great progressive/electro vibe going. My own mixes gravitate towards a electro/tribal/funk groove. In the end it’s all about what makes you shake yo ass. Good job. As far as I’m concerned, you’re 2 and 0. http://www.shermanlake.net/djrahja

  • Andrew May 19th, 2005 11:22 am

Chris - The Third track is Martin H, Oliver Klein - “Club Game”

Pascal - That track is Robbie Rivera - “Dance”

Rahja - Thanks for noticing my efforts. This mix took a while, as I tried to do too much with it, and ended up liking the first 4 tracks, and how they jived… so it took a while, but I ended up waiting until I could get the rest on the same level. I’ve thrown “gym mixes” together pretty quickly, but doing a project like this is a whole other animal. It’s pretty fun.

  • Chris May 19th, 2005 10:31 pm

    Thanks Andrew!

  • Christopher May 26th, 2005 8:12 pm

    Hello there,

I found your page by following links through the Textamerica site. Just had a listen to this mix and I have to say that it is fan-frickin-tastic. Great job!

By the way, what’s the title of track #4? It makes me melt. Better yet, could you please email me the tracklisting for this set?

    Looking forward to your follow-up!

    Thanks!

    Christopher

  • durran June 3rd, 2005 5:23 am

Hej Man, really love this mix!
Would love to know all the trax you used so I can look up some of my fav parts and find other versions of it.
Looking forward to your next mix!

    Greetz from Amsterdam,
    Durran.

  • Patrick June 6th, 2005 5:06 pm

I’m behind on reading my fav blogs…but downloading this mix now. I can already tell you if you’ve got Kaskade I’ll like it. LOVE him. I’ve got a bunch of OM in rotation in my car. Unfortunately I’m off the gym right now (injured my back) but I guess I can just lay in bed and pretend I’m on the treadmill or the dance floor. I’ll let you know.

  • Patrick June 6th, 2005 6:48 pm

OH NO! You did not put Veronica on this! I’m dancing like it was 1999 and my back will go out!! Damn you Andy McDonald! Damn you…

  • Andrew June 7th, 2005 11:06 pm

Ha! I sure did! This track has remained a fav of mine, and I couldn’t resist.

  • Patrick June 8th, 2005 7:01 pm

Well it works really well in the set. My friend Gregory told me to tell you that. A couple of places are a little hard and dark for my taste but it all blends nicely. I like mixes that take you on a journey and you’ve accomplished that beautifully. Well done. When can I expect a new installment? I’m playing let it go for my hairdresser next.

  • Ben June 17th, 2005 12:04 am

Amazing mix! You can tell the TLC that went into it–if only the music in the clubs was this good and thought out. Thanks for the tunes- could you tell me the name of the track that starts around the 40 min mark with the kick ass guitar? I can’t get enough of that one. Cheers, -Ben

  • eKapa June 21st, 2005 8:23 am

very nice indeed. can’t wait to hear more!

  • Aaron July 15th, 2005 8:55 pm

    Hey Andy,

Just listened to Let it Go. I had no idea you were into mixing, and that you’re so good. You had me dancing right here in my condo. Hope to hear more soon.

Might see you guys in a couple weeks in Vancouver.

  • az guy August 3rd, 2005 2:33 pm

You seem to have a well-rounded taste in dance music (since hearing prodigy’s “voodoo people” and the bodyrockers’ “i like the way”), which is better than I can say about many radio DJ’s. Your mixes are nice afterhour type stuff, but you should also try a more quick-tempo beachy sort of mix, too.

For the guy above, the song around the 40-min mark on this mix is the bodyrockers’ “I Like The Way”. It just came out recently (the past 2-3 months) in Europe.

I came onto this site from a search on google.

  • Andrew August 3rd, 2005 4:14 pm

    Hey guys,

Thanks for the nice words. Actually I’d say my stuff remains mostly peak-hour for the most part… though I have been considering doing something a little more after-hours. But to respond to your suggestiong, I was thinking about putting together something a bit more happy and fun, a T-dance sort of CD. Unfortunately, it’s all just thought, as I haven’t had much time to dink around with music as much as I’d like to. Darn my “real life!” :)

  • Ali August 22nd, 2005 12:26 pm

Thank you for sharing your fantastic mix. I’m really diggin it. It sounds sooo good in my pick truck!!!

    Thanks Anrew

  • jtg August 24th, 2005 5:09 pm

Incredible - I can’t imagine how much time this must have taken you. Thx for sharing with the world.

  • Fernando Lucas August 28th, 2005 5:38 pm

Great Mix, Andrew. How did you record it? I’m a party-DJ trying to get into clubs and until i can afford real equipment i’m using Native Instrument’s Traktor DJ Studio software.
Please mix more, i love your vibe, great song selection. Oh, and please, keep up the good being-naked lifestyle ;-)

  • Wils September 12th, 2005 1:30 pm

    WWWWWWWWOW!

i was in a bitched-out effed-up back hand-slapping evil-eye throwing nasty raggedy-ann mood until i came across your alter alter blog and off handedly decided to stream your mix….

    sigh…

i love gay men!… time to go kiss my boyfriend and forget this nasty job for a while. Thanks man! Wils in DC <3 DJ Bravehound!

  • Adam October 4th, 2005 7:36 pm

Mmmmm. Damn now thats a good mix… .There’s an awesome club here called onesixone that your mix is very reminiscent of. Currently infuriating the lesbian in the accounts department with your mix pumping out loud :) The phase “goddamn cheerful dance crap” were the words she used lol! Good job handsome, you had me dancing to it in the shower getting ready for work this morning.

  • Eddy October 13th, 2005 8:16 pm

    Hey Andy,

Great Job.. Especially coz u start it of with kaskade.. one of my favorite DJs ever…

After listening more of the mix, Im not quite so sure if you are more into deep soulful house or progressive ones.. seems to be a lil bit mix of both…

If you havent checked out Miguel Migs new Get Salted CD.. you definitely should.. I think you’re gonna like it…

Thanks again for the mix… great job!

  • Danny October 21st, 2005 6:36 pm

have you ever mixed using vinyl?

  • chrisj November 4th, 2005 5:44 pm

Some of us are suffering withdrawl here… I’ve really enjoyed the blend of technical ability with a keen sensse of style and balance in your creations. Some “professionals” just don’t seem to get it (no, I will not call them out).

The inevitable question is: What next? I would love to hear what you have bouncing around in the creative fortress.

  • Laurence November 15th, 2005 1:34 pm

Love your mixes Andy - ok, and your pictures, too - just listened to Madonna’s latest “hung up” and wondering if and when we’ll hear your take? When I heard the ABBA samples, I almost fell over…

  • Tyson Williams November 24th, 2005 6:36 pm

Kick ass mix dude! Love it…

  • Shane November 30th, 2005 7:36 pm

You were a huge hit, bro! Last weekend was my guy’s birthday and I had my iPod on party shuffle. Your house mix came on and everyone just dug it! Peace…

  • Lukus December 30th, 2005 8:20 am

  • nyckahuna February 18th, 2006 7:17 am

Great Mixes– i listen to them when i want to ensure a hard pump at the gym! thanks bro!

one question: what is that track that contains the lyric “don’t come knockin’ at my door” or “stop knockin at my door”; i’d love to go to itunes and purchase it. great job and nice pics too!

  • Lollipop Monika March 25th, 2006 5:41 am

    Andy,
I absolutely love your mixes! I swear by them! I am so delighted to see a new Pure Gold “baby” joining the family, loading it as we speak. Would you minding sending a list of tracks for each of the three mixes, please? Thank you. Oh, by the way, Oguzhan says hello! ;)

  • Mike June 27th, 2006 12:29 pm

OMG love the mixes they are OOC = out of control. Love your creativity keep it UP!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Gavin July 27th, 2006 10:30 am

Ok, I may seem like a total loser, but I just stumbled accross your site, and think it’s great. I tried to download your tracks, but couldn’t because my mouse to my Mac doesn’t have ‘right click’.. at least that I know of, and only plays the music rather than downloads it. Is there a way I can download your stuff and put it onto my iPod?

  • vranCO! September 2nd, 2006 3:24 pm

    Hey Drew,
I’m from Holland and -like most of your visitors- love what you’re doing.
How can you cope with so many people lovin’ you? [I have ‘trouble’ with just 1].
But everybody also wanna know what singer/group is of song number four. The song you named you mix after.
Search the internet for a month now and came up with nothing. There’s so many singers naming their song: Let it go.
Can you lift up the curtain??

Thanx, and keep doing what you do, cause it is you.
    vranCO!

  • Andrew September 2nd, 2006 4:00 pm

That song is a mix of Lisa Shaw - “Let It Ride”…. she’s an awesome and underrated vocalist.

  • vranCO! September 5th, 2006 6:49 am

    Thanks a lot for that.

You should also look/listen at: Trick & Kubic Ft Valeska - Easy (Original Mix).
    A bit Phsycodalic, but NICE!
    And for when you’re done:
Model 500 - The Flow (Frank De Wulf Mix). That song is also a Gem!!

    Later, vranCO!

  • vranCO! September 5th, 2006 6:58 am

    And oh…..
To Mike the ‘Mac guy’: You must click with and hold one of your ’special’ [ctr or apple] key down!
That’s the way to ‘right click’ with a Mac.
CHEERS, now you’re no loser anymore!
(Wished everything went that easy :-)

  • Roy December 8th, 2006 1:29 pm

    Hey Andy,
    Love your remixes !

  • aziz April 25th, 2007 12:01 pm

    Hey ,

This is my favorite mix . Its more a kind of silky sexy deep house with a touch of of chillout at the beginning a mix that you enjoyed at the middle of a nice party like ( B&B for instance!!)

Your sound is really pure and consistent, reminds me the good days and deep dish with just a little more of a progressive touch …

You really should consider the djing my friend your sound matches the actual trend . Who knows maybe i ll see you spinning a night at the Stereo !!

  • Pauline July 12th, 2007 8:01 pm

Good day! Thanks for your work, admin!
    ;)

  • Norbert July 15th, 2007 7:01 am

    ;)
