Alison Krauss - If I Didn’t Know Any Better

I’ve heard the comment more than once, "Wow, we’re really into different types of music."  House tracks don’t even account for 10% of my library, though.

Long before I loved house music, or found myself shirtless at any boy-boy squishy-squishy circuit event, I had a love for bluegrass tunes. You know the saying.  You can take the boy out of Montana…

And my fav?  Alison Krauss.  Here’s a video off her most recent release  She’s been doing this for what seems like forever, just seems to get better and better.  And damn it, I still haven’t managed to catch her live.  Not that many of my friends would want to tag along to see a show that included fiddles.

I never pay heed to country music before, but Alison Krauss’ “You Will Be My Ain True Love” got my full attention. Such a wonderful, sensual, lovely song and her uniquely soothing vocal fits the mood perfectly. And now I’m pretty much a fan of Dixie Chicks’ “Landslide”, Loretta Lynn’s “Portland, Oregon” and The Wreckers. :)

I LOVE Alison Krauss! She has one of the purest and most haunting voices I’ve ever heard. She’s appeared at MerleFest here in North Carolina a few times, but I’ve never had a chance to see her. I’m sure it would be a memorable experience.

Allison Krauss is pretty amazing. But my favorite is Nickel Creek ~ those kids can really rock it. Their first album (self-titled) was the best ~ lots of unbelievable instrumental tracks.

Your friends shun fiddles? Ignorant sluts!

I discovered Alison Krauss after buying the soundtrack to the movie “O Brother, Where Art Thou.” And I have since acquired all of her albums. I absolutely love her voice (and Union Station, too).
I just checked the touring schedule on her website and found out that I MISSED HER last weekend! Damn! She was in San Francisco and I didn’t know about it.
I agree with Mikey, too. I loves me some Nickel Creek. (And I did not miss their appearance in SF earlier this year.)

    Boy-boy squishy-squishy. Likes.

Anyway, your point is well taken — while I’m not a big fan of certain genres of music, I’ve found that great music usually transcends the genre. As such, every once in a while I’ll find myself listening to something with a country twang or R&B beat that would otherwise turn me off. That depends on finding music of exceptional heart.

she’s great! she sang at the oscars a couple of years back with Sting, it was really well done…

AK is one of my favorites, too. I’ve Got that Old Feeling is one of my all-time favorite albums.

I have a hard time meeting men at bluegrass festivals, though . Oh, and everywhere else….

Hey man. Awesome blog. Hopefully I will have one as cool as this one soon!

Btw.. I am close to buying the Nokia N73. Would you prefer that one over the Nokia N80? or are the sony ones better?

Anyway. keep up the good work!

Thanks for the intro to Alison, she has a great voice. I am a big fan of The Rankins and like anybody similar to them. I like many genres of music and also have a hard time finding any friends to go to any concerts that are not mainstream. I say that I am aging better than they are … yeah, that’s it.

I’ve heard that saying before too. “You can take the boy out of Texas…”

Texas, born and bred, and visited beautiful Montana for the first time this last year, and live in Los Angeles now.

No matter where I am, Allison Krauss and bluegrass are always a part of me.

Here’s to hoping that she keeps it up forever.

Ok, I’m originally from Virginia and have been an AKUS fan for many years and you guys have got to make the effort to see them live. I have seen them four times and their concert is one of the best shows that I have been too. It’s not flashy, not a big stage production, but she and the band make you feel like you are a part of the experience and it is just a great warm evening. Plus they cut up and joke with the audience.

Heck, I’d drive up to Seattle or Vancouver to attend the concert with ya!

I was lucky enough to see Allison Krauss and Union Station once in Texas. The live performance tops any album, live or otherwise. They really are the best at what they do. You can also tell that they love what they do and that they love playing together. You have to see them live!!!!

    Fiddles RULE! More fiddles!

  • Ben December 8th, 2006 12:46 am

Ahh, the soothing sounds of Alison Krauss. After being tortured with Willie Nelson and the like growing up, I too hated country, but she is something else. Her solo album, “Forget About It” from a few years back is an absolute classic.

Alison Kraus has such a pure voice! Have you ever listened to Patti Griffin? Another incredible chanteuse and songrwriter- her song ‘It don’t come easy’ gives me chills every time…
