Here’s the soundtrack to New Year’s :)

It was a long time coming for this new mix, but it was worth the delay. I actually started it about 3 months ago. It barely resembles the mix I started making, but think the result has really turned into something special. Faster Still was my effort to try to make the perfect workout mix; this mix is all about sounds I love on the dance floor. The flavor this go-around? Electro with some funky hip hop and rock sounds.

So who’s sangin’? Would you believe I used modern takes on songs by Run DMC and George Benson? Don’t forget some hot new remixes of old tracks by Janet, Warren G(!), and Black Box. The sound is hot new electro, but the canvas turned out to be some classic songs - and they’ve been given a whole new feel entirely, to the credit of Chris Lake, Jason Nevins, Starkillers, Bodyrox, Xavier, and others. There aren’t really any fad pop mixes here (with exception of the last track).. adding to the shelf life of this set, I think.

It begins with a swift smack across the face, and glides into a funky electro groove… stuff I love to introduce peak hour sounds. Right at about 15 minutes in, it gets a little more serious, and then sounds get a little more grand, and then sexy. After that, I quiet down - compared to the rest of the mix, anyhow - to a slow throb. Then another smack across the face, peak hour spasm again. The mix ends with some lighter, emotional sounds - how I usually begin a set.

If you listened to the first two-thirds of any of my previous sets, you “got the idea.” And the first third of this set is a hell of a good time, for sure. However, the last third of this set is really quite different from the rest - and has some great tracks. This mix is a bit of a journey, while my other mixes are more self-contained.

At the end of the the day, this set covers a range of sounds I get down to. With just enough electro to hold them together.

Let me know what you guys think! Warning to ya, though.. pop mix lovers might be a little heart-broken… these are some serious grooves here :)

- Andy

How do I put this into words.
The new mix is Fantastic. Oh, that was easier than I thought. Like your other offerings, I can already imagine the party I’m gonna play this at. Incredible, as always.

BTW, if you and the bois intend to hit any of the major clubs the weekend of the New Year Holiday, you’d better pre-purchase your tickets. Most have been on sales since the 1st of the month. Clubs like SPLASH, Big Lug, Therapy, will be packed, and so, No ticket, No entry.

    Thanks for a great blog.

    Gorgeous mix, love it!

Hey Andy, have you listen to Mogwai? It’s a Scottish shoegaze band and they dish out the perfect chill-out, sunday morning, freshly-cut grass, cloud-spottin, rainy day, hangover music. I recommend ‘Hunted By A Freak’, ‘Take Me Somewhere Nice’ and ‘Auto Rock’. Try them. :)

Hey Andy, awesome mix you got goin there. I downloaded it a few days ago and the music seems to go well with everything: at the gym, home online, even chillout music turned down low after a big night out. My favourite would be Pink at the end of the mix - such a great way to finish things off.

My bravehound playlist now has 6 hours of mixes - keep up the great work! I hope you don’t mind if I refer some friends across to listen to your stuff.

    Cheers.

Oh and are you going back to photo-style CD artwork anytime soon? Cool cover on Groove Tonight, but it’s always nice to see some skin on my ipod :)

I have been ho-hum about the New Year’s celebration. You totally turned my around. I pray the DJs in the clubs in Atlanta produce a party as good as this mix. Bravo!

  • bbourgas January 20th, 2007 8:17 am

    Hi, A.
I just want to ask you about Black Box’s Everybody Everybody song. Who made the remix? Is it ‘Funkagenda re-edit’? I tried hard to find out, but i still cant find the version you have been used in your mix.
    Greetings!

  • Jeremy January 20th, 2007 9:52 am

Great mix! I was also wondering which remix of the Black Box song you used, I like it but can’t find the right one!

  • bbourgas January 20th, 2007 12:17 pm

Jeremy, I found it! It was exact what i thought! The version in the A’s mix is Funkagenda re-edit. If you can’t find it drop me few lines on my ICQ 278964831.
    Greetings!

Superb. Sensational. Sexy. Thanks for the great mix.

  • Ben January 24th, 2007 10:59 pm

BTW, along the theme of electro/house sound, there’s a series of podcasts done by a DJ named Kered at boramusic.com that are really good as well and have some similarities with the first half of your set here. There are also some good guest sets from big-named DJs as well. Thanks again!

Amazing mixes. I just downloaded all of them and been having a little party in my office for the past four hours! It’s time for a new one, keep at it man - very talented!

  • Ted Tar November 24th, 2007 1:15 pm

Hello, would it be possible for you to list the original tracks you used in this mix? I’ve been trying to find some of these original songs and have no idea what the songs are. It would also be a good idea to do with other mixes too since they’re also awesome! Thanks! I’ll be waiting for your reply!

  • Kory April 26th, 2008 11:53 pm

OK - older mix - new listener. Enjoyed the journey… the grooves really started killing me at 23-24 min. Love the serious attention to groove, man!! It wasn’t a pop-deficient disappointment here. Your electro play was… sexy and hot. And letting the bass sing is such a goooooooooood thing =) Thanks for what you do

  • Kory April 26th, 2008 11:54 pm

wrong email address entered for last post-sorry

  • Eric June 30th, 2008 3:04 am

    Hey Andy…

Wow I can’t stop dancing in front of the mirror listening to your mixes. Finally someone who gets it right and mixes something that gets me going from start to finish.

Why can’t we here this all the time at the clubs?

    Keep producing more!!

    Eric :)
