DJ Bravehound’s first house mix

I’d like to share my first house CD I’ve mixed. I actually made this CD before the Britney remix I posted, and I’ve made other continuous mixes after this one… but this Better At Night is still my favorite. It’s still rockin my iPod gym list.

It starts out pretty festive and fun, and after a rockin “floor filler” - about 40 minutes in - starts amping up, and keeps going. The energy level doesn’t wind down any - it’s only a 80 minute set! - but rather peaks at the end. I won’t share the track listing on here, in hopes that people give it a listen all the way through, without skipping around.

I’d love to hear your feedback. I felt it was a good mix - only an error or two in it. I used Mixmeister to do the mixing. I have fun doing mixes, so I’m sure I’ll be posting others as time goes on.

Some might be thinking… have I found yet another venue for my shameless, needless self-promotion?

Yep.

Your mix is great - I loved it. When can we get it on CD (or download)?

  • Roger March 4th, 2005 10:31 am

Excellent. Can’t go wrong with Lola’s Theme.

  • Chris March 4th, 2005 7:39 pm

Andy, i’m listening to the mix now and it sounds great. Hearing Lola’s theme is beginning to remind me of my store CD (A&F)! That song was in the playlist last month. I’ll give you total feedback when I’ve finished the mix. I’ve made some mixes that all my friends love so we should trade music. I have tons of songs plus playlists from Abercrombie if you want them. Wow, i’m liking the song after Lola’s Theme…yes…hotness. :D Well done!

That “Nobody Knows Me” song is Hoootttttt….. what program are you using to mix these songs?

  • Chris March 4th, 2005 8:44 pm

Done. Wow, Uber Good. You might like ‘Connected’ by Mark Hardwick.

  • Andrew March 4th, 2005 11:59 pm

Hey Chris - thanks for the nice words, man! I use mixmeister, though as I’m getting more interested in taking it further, I’m sure I’ll use more technical programs.

Mikey.. to answer your question, this link is to a playlist file, not the source file. But I bet if you played with the file menu of the application it plays in, you’ll find what you’re looking for :)

I downloaded a trial version of MixMeister and it’s a great program but quite difficult to master. I have to give you serious credit on your mixes because I never noticed how insanely difficult it is to match beats and yours seem to blend seamlessly. How long did this mix take you to make?

  • Chris March 5th, 2005 9:54 pm

Allright, I have to be totally honest. Flat out, being 100% honest here; I’m rarely impressed by anything. I tend to be a leader more than a follower because I find the best and most impressive. I’m listening to this mix for the 4th time and it’s truly spectacular. I’m being ONE HUNDRED PERCENT HONEST here Andy. No joke. I think this mix is one of the best I’ve ever heard. There was only one CD I love called Road Warrior which is a 45 track reggae cd. Other than that and now “Better at Night” I can’t listen to anything else straight through. This mix is truly sick beyond me. You’ve truly impressed me with this one. :D

From that shot of the green hallway to the DC subway….now this. You’ve honestly impressed me. If I ever hit it big (more when :D) with my Design companies, I’m DEFINITELY going to go back and shake your hand.

From one strong creative mind to another-

    Hey Chris,

I really appreciate the nice words. I hope to take more time in the future to play more creatively with music.

So yeah, if you ever make it big, take me with you! :)

    Loved it!

  • Rahja March 14th, 2005 10:48 am

Love it! If you like Shapeshifters “Lola’s Theme” check out their new one “Back to Basics”. Part of my own explosive house mix at http://www.shermanlake.net/djrahja/.
    Keep up the great work!

Andy, I’ve listened to over half by now and I think your mix is great! Not really my usual speed–I tend to flip between acid jazz and oakenfold or van dyk style trance. But unfortunately that means I’m totally out of the more popular dance music loop. I’m downloading this to my MP3 player as a workout mix as we speak!

  • Patrick March 15th, 2005 4:30 pm

Yes, definitely a good workout mix.

  • Quin March 18th, 2005 8:01 am

I was just going through different moblogs and then I saw yours then I saw a link to this site… I downloaded the remix and my mind/vagina immediately exploded!(this coming from a twenty year-old man) LOL!

Nice touch on using “Lola’s Theme”
It’s really great! I’m totally hooked! It’s been repeatedly played on my playlist. Thanks!

  • Jaron March 27th, 2005 3:06 am

Awesome, Andy… I ripped the audio using Audio Hijack. It’s now on iPod. Great job.

  • nick March 28th, 2005 2:28 pm

    love the mix
can anybody tell me how in itunes i can actually make it as a file so its not playign right of teh website kind of thing
    thanks nic

  • nick March 28th, 2005 4:38 pm

i want to be able to pause it and stufff and not have to start it from the begining all the time help

  • Jaydog April 3rd, 2005 10:02 pm

Well, you’ve done it. I’m hooked on “Better At Night”! It’s gotten into my head, and I can’t shake it loose! After listening to it a few times streaming, I finally downloaded it to my PC, and then burned it to a CD, and finally loaded it onto my Rio for workouts at the gym. I blame you, Andrew! BTW…fantastic job on it!

  • Jaydog April 16th, 2005 7:57 pm

Andrew has hinted at it ;-), but if you’re as hooked on this mix as I am, and want to be able to burn it to CD or add it to your portable music device, you have a couple of options.

One is to play it real time and capture it with audio capture software. Someone mentioned Audio Hijack, which I’ve not used, but WavePad, a free program, would also work well.

The other, and in my mind, best option, is to play it streaming through Media Player, and select “Save As”. That will download it to your PC. Good luck!

    kicks ass dude.
Your blog is equally rockin. Why are there so many hot guys in Boston, such a small city???

  • chrisj May 20th, 2005 2:01 pm

So I stumbled across your TA moblog and was lead here a few months ago.. I read the whole thing and didn’t download “Better at Night” until a while ago; boy was that a mistake. I LOVE IT. You have a great ear for continuity and shows in the borders (or seeming lack thereof) between “tracks” in the mix. It also strikes a cord since some of the tracks I’ve enjoyed on thier own and consider it a treat to have so many of them mixed in an interesting and worthy way. I can’t wait to get my audiophile ears around “Let It Go”.

Thank you and keep it up.

  • Andrew May 23rd, 2005 9:09 pm

Hey, thanks for the nice words. I’d say Let It Go is technically a better mix, so I’m hoping you like it. Always happy to hear when people dig what I enjoy making.

  • brett July 26th, 2005 11:43 pm

could you maybe tell me how else I could download it since I’m on an apple?…or send it to me via www.yousendit.com
    my email is potteba@gmail.com

  • Mike November 11th, 2005 6:01 pm

    Andy,

Tech question for ya ~ do you know of any free software (or demos) that I could use to break the one big .mp3 into individual songs? While I love the entire mix, I do find that I have a couple favorites that I like to listen to ad nauseum… Thanks!

  • Carl January 5th, 2006 12:18 pm

  • A_new_admirerer_of_Andrew's May 14th, 2008 3:07 am

I’m really liking this mix; came across your site totally by accident, it’s really well-done. I know I could rip it, but is it ok with you if I do rip this track?
