nokia n95: convergence without compromise

This might be the most exciting N Series device announced by Nokia to date.
Anyone that follows Nokia’s product development usually finds the same pattern with each handset… great specs that push the industry, but never embodying everything Nokia has to offer in a mobile.
The N93 has the great video. The N80 has the great all-round feature set with WiFi, super hi res screen… but less-than-stellar optics. With every release we see a different product pushing different features. And some features have been always left out… stereo bluetooth for listening to music via wireless headphones, for example.
Now - or more accurately, by Q1 2007 - we have the Nokia N95, what nokia calls “clearest expression of Nokia N series, and what we actually mean by a multimedia computer. It is convergence without compromise.”
This is the big daddy of the N Series. Check out the feature set and see if you don’t agree.
The more remarkable specs include:
- 5 MegaPixel Carl Zeiss optics with advanced Auto Focus
- VGA (640×480) Video recording up to 30 frames per second
- Video Out
- 2-way slide for fast transformation from multimedia computer to player
- Built-in GPS and world map covering 1000 countries
- Bluetooth (stereo bluetooth, support for A2DP profile)
- 2.6″ TFT Display
- WLAN or HSDPA (3.5g) withup to 10 times faster download than with 3g
- GSM Quadband
- Micro SD memory card support up to 2 gigs
- SIP support for VoIP

The *only* thing that I could have wanted on top of this list is an internal 8 GB hard drive. But other than that… Jesus. So from my perspective, there’s only one big question to ask….Where the hell is Sony Ericsson?

hey andy
i was just about to message you for an opinion about the N95. i’ll definitely picking one up as soon as its available. will you be providing a review? hopefully. until then.
-Mike
Yeah, I’d love to review this model… in case anyone out there is listening.. ;)

Doesn’ t have touchscreen capabilities.. but really… thats just about it. The N93 is too large, though. Held one the other day and its monstruous. I really liked the SonyEricsson W950i. No camera, though.
OMG, shoes.
What the dickens!!! 240 x 320 pixels! But other than that =o)
Its 120g! I can’t handle anything that big. I’m such a reverse size queen but I really want better video capabilities. *sigh*
Damn.. I want that phone! Wish I was a rich man :) That phone would be like one paycheck to me :)
The N95 is going to be hot in the next few months.
About your question. Yes, I agree that Sony Ericsson should not be relying just on their cybershot and walkman phone. Don’t get me wrong, they are extremely good mobile phone, but Sony Ericsson need to come out with something new already!
