Quantcast

oh yeah. and another little friend.

I know, I know.  Despite the cute ad, it still looks like a hobbit.

I picked up one of these suckers to replace my iPod Mini I got back in ‘04.  I’ve worn the sucker out.  This should serve my running/gym needs pretty well.  Got an 8GB black one.

They’re so friggin’ small.  They should have put a clip on the back and just axed the shuffle, they’re so tiny.  The new animated UI is pretty sweet.. the wheel is too narrow in my opinion, let’s see I notice it after a bit of use.  I got the stock armband on the way, so that’ll be the real test.

Don’t get me wrong.  I’d still slap Steve Jobs across the face if given a chance.  And then apologize and thank him a little bit.

Just got me the silver 4gb one . . . loving it.

Missing your sorry ass on the west coast though.

“Small” is an understatement, guys…it’s like a postage stamp.
    I must be gettin’ old.
p.s….Hey Andrew, I’m dying for new photo journal pics.

You’re right. It’s perfect for the gym and the arm band is key. Oh, and when you come across Jobs; slap him for me too. I just got the 80gig classic in August and Whammo! here comes the 160 for the same price.

I change my mind. Kick that bitch in the balls.

    Andy . . .

any luck finding a good video file converter program to set video files to the necessary mp4 and correct resolution for your new 3g ipod?

    lemme know what you think of the new armband - - i might wait for a 3rd party one . . . just curious . . .

    Noooooooooooooooo……first a Macbook, then another iPod……

So, why would you buy a product from a guy you want to slap? I thought your next DAP was going to be “not an iPod”. Congrats on being another one of Mr. Jobs’ lemmings. I’m gonna buy you a black turtleneck for Christmas. /sigh

The guy has no fashion sense, but he sure could market a white paperclip for $50 and have people lined up to buy it and call it innovative and conveniently small, stating that it “just works like it should”.

    Hee hee….

Everyone, meet my brother Scott :)

I’m still a hesitant switcher. I have them for work, and if I couldn’t also run boot camp to have a real (not virtual) windows OS, I’d be marching out to but a PC for myself. I still might build a schmancy gaming box, I haven’t ruled that out.

    Andrew…
I LOVE the word “schmancy”…it’s so GAY ;)
If you build it, they will come.
ps…the captions on your latest photo journal update had me kinda’ giddy. Thnx.

The Macbook was a good decision given what you have to do with it for work. With dual booting to XP or Vista, you can do it all.

The iPod is another deal. Oh, wait - it’s the SAME deal in a different shape. I can see your hesitation to change given the hassle you just went through on your last trip.

I’ll be thinking about you when I’m syncing over WiFi with my Zune next month by way of the upcoming software update. And on an unlimited music subscription for $15 per month. While listening to it on my TV.

Admit that you bought into a shiny small trend and I’ll STFU.
    ;-)

I beat you by a little over 3 years on the unlimited music subscription :P Only difference is I get to keep the DRM-free music I get from my service to do whatever I want with, if I choose to go elsewhere. I’m no fool… won’t catch me buying music from Apple.

I *did* want just the same deal again. While I think the new Zunes are pretty darn sweet, and the wireless sync is a sweet feature, I did just want a new mini, a nice little gym player that works with my smart playlists on whatever OS I wanna be on.

I currently have a 1gb shuffle for the gym, and my ancient 20gb 3rd Gen iPod (which even im surprised still works!). Anyway, I’m proper tempted by one of these babies. Like you mentioned, they are uber small and would be perfect for the bus trip into work in the morning… One for my Santa list this Christmas me thinks!

  • Scott October 18th, 2007 12:59 pm

You’re right. You started paying for a subscription 3 years before I started paying at all, and you aren’t using subscription music - you are recording subscription streams. I think the way you record the streams is crafty and it works well, but I don’t have the time to wait 5 hours for 5 albums worth of music. I wake up in the morning and download what is on my mind before going to work. You got me on the cross OS thing.

OH - and I too can take my music to whichever player I go, DRM free, if I decide it’s worth keeping when I leave the service.

  • Andrew October 19th, 2007 3:50 pm

We do have a different process, since I’m at a computer all day.
    I’m listen > like > rip > keep.
    You’re sync > listen > like > keep.

You can buy DRM free versions of songs you like from any subscription WMA service, when you leave. And a Zune Pass, Yahoo! Music to Go, Rhapsody to Go, Napster to Go account… all use subscription WMA downloads to sync to devices. Without an account, they’ll expire in 1-30 days, depending on your provider.

Now if you’re talking about pulling some version of my tactics if you decided to leave the service, then ignore all that :)

  • Gabe October 24th, 2007 5:07 pm

Amusing argument you two have going on here.

  • Scott October 29th, 2007 9:15 pm

Yup, different strokes for different folks. Actually I’m more like:

Think I might like > download all from artist > delete the crap I don’t like later after I’ve listened to it at work on the Zune.

With the amount of music I download on subscription, I would have to have my computer on 36 hours a day for some weeks. With my video card fan held on with a zip tie, I don’t feel comfortable leaving it unattended. :-0

They do expire, but I’m a transient listener when it comes to artists. If I ever get to the point that I want to leave Zune Marketplace, I could just strip the DRM off the files I want at about 2 seconds each. Is that a version of your tactics? Perhaps. We are blood, ya know.

Oh yeah, and the Zune software is easier for Brandi to get working right. She has total control for a flat fee, which we both share. Woot!
